Hobby Center for the Performing Arts

February 21, 2014, Houston, TX – On Friday, March 7 at 8 pm, North America’s foremost emerging wind quintet, WindSync will return to Houston, their home base for an evening of classical music with a fresh, energetic approach. The performance will take place at the Zilkha Hall, Hobby Center for the Performing Arts located at 800 Bagby St. #300, Houston, TX 77002.

“In the past few years, we’ve had the pleasure of touring together in different parts of the world like China, Taiwan, Canada and more,” said Tracy Jacobson, WindSync bassoon player. “We’re all excited to return back to Houston, where it all began.”

The ensemble has distinguished itself among classical music ensembles and is internationally recognized for dramatic and adventurous programing in venues ranging from concert halls to museums, universities, schools, and national parks. The young, energetic group plays exclusively from memory, includes elements of staging and choreography, and focuses on building connections with audiences through dynamic concert programming and charismatic stage presence.

Since its inception in 2009 at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, WindSync has been performing community concerts throughout Houston.  In 2012, the ensemble won the prestigious Concert Artist Guild Competition and began extensive touring, performing in such renowned venues as New York’s Carnegie Hall, the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center in China, the Washington Performing Arts Society in Washington DC and the Minneapolis Schubert Club. On March 7, WindSync is bringing their sold-out Carnegie Hall performance home to Houston, presenting for the first time on their home turf the recital that they have been taking around the world.

The concert will include works by Ravel, Respighi, Bernstein, and Maslanka, plus a premiere of WindSync’s own arrangement of the Mozart Fantasia in F minor, k 608.

Admission is $10 for Students, $20 for General Admission, and $65 for VIP Admission with onstage reception. Tickets can be purchased at: WindSync.org or by clicking here.
