Students Nationwide were chosen to share their very own stories or artwork in a professionally published book through the Houston-based literacy foundation
Houston, TX, November 4- On Saturday, December 7 at 2 p.m., the Texas based Non-Profit Literacy Foundation, READ3Zero will reveal the “4th Annual Short-Story Anthology,” to honor students in grades third through twelfth for their literary and illustration accomplishments. There students will receive an award, conduct book readings, and have their very own book signing. The Literacy and Book Signing Event will be held at the Houston Public Library Downtown-Central located at 500 McKinney, Houston, Texas 77002.
“We are so excited to share the works of 55 students this year at our 4th annual celebration. There were so many amazing stories, and we can’t wait for everyone to see these talented young authors and illustrators, ” said Melissa Williams, Children’s Author and founder of READ3Zero. “Seeing their work published after all the hard work is such a treat for them, and for me! This is something that they will forever be able to cherish and remember, and I’m so happy to be a part of their journey.”
Founded in 2009 by Williams, READ3zero has embarked on a mission to help share various aspects of the literacy and publishing world, with the goal in mind to influence the lives of children to learn outside of the classroom. One of the primary creative projects at READ3Zero is the annual short-story contest, which aims to emphasize the idea that reading and writing should always coexist.
Through Read3Zero, Williams not only works to encourage children to read, but she aims to inspire children to use their creativity and write their own story.
Williams said, “ Encouraging not only students but parents, teachers, partners and businesses to inspire literacy is our goal with READ3Zero. The combination of literacy and creativity within the community is going to heavily influence the lives of young children to continue to learn outside of the classroom.
At the event, students will receive awards of excellence and a copy of their very own book to autograph amongst family, friends and the community. The event program is as follows:
2:30 p.m. Individual readings from Star Story Authors
3:00 p.m. Special Presentation: International Literacy Project in the Philippines
