June 3, 2014, Houston, TX – This month, internationally recognized educational consulting firm, Firat Educational Solutions (FES), will collect and donate gently used SAT and ACT study guides to underprivileged local teens. The program will benefit two nonprofit organizations, Boys and Girls Harbor and Nehemiah Center and donations are being accepted at FES headquarters located at 3701 W Alabama St #390, Houston, TX 77027, Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m.- 9:00 p.m. The goal of the “ACT of Kindness” Book Drive is to encourage current and former FES students and parents to recycle old testing materials while providing less-fortunate students with the opportunity to study for upcoming  college entrance exams.

The program is tailored towards a need-based audience and donations are accepted until each organization’s goals are met.

“We were observing a multitude of our students throw away their SAT and ACT books after they finished testing,” said Co-Owner of Firat Educational Solutions, Ibrahim Firat, “ Those books cost on average $20, so as parents, tutors and educators we felt compelled to find a solution for those in need by acting as a conduit between students who’d already completed testing and those who greatly are in need of assistance.”

Firat Educational Solutions is owned by husband and wife educators, Ibrahim and Josephine Firat and they have been serving Houston area students for more than ten years.

“This year, 100% of our students who participated in our tutoring sessions were successfully admitted into their colleges of choice, such as the University of Austin, Stanford University, and Duke University. However, while we do believe that tutoring is essential in today’s competitive admissions process, those who are not in a position to hire a tutor should still have access to the proper tools to study as best as possible,” said Firat.

The husband and wife duo share a passion for education, and together they work with students at all ages, specifically focusing on high school and college admissions. In addition, Ibrahim is a professor of entrepreneurship and small business management at Houston Community College, while Josephine guides student entrepreneurs through the Houston Young Entrepreneurs Academy, a year-long program that teaches middle and high school students how to start and run their own businesses. Their combined experience allows them to work with teens and young adults from various socioeconomic backgrounds, thus seeing firsthand the positive impact of a teen well-equipped with the right tools for success.

The two organizations benefiting from the program this year, cater to families and children in crises, giving them a foundation to feel safe and at-home and providing them with self-help programs to nourish them back into society.
