On October 24, 2024, we learned that Vice President Kamala Harris and our Queen of Culture, Beyoncé, would be in Houston the same evening as our 15th anniversary party. News like this might usually send me down a hopeless spiral of dread or an anxiety-driven creative pivot, but we embraced the moment and decided to keep calmala and carry onala.
And I’m so glad we did.
Former employees, some of whom I hadn’t seen in 5 or even 10 years, showed up to celebrate. One of our very first clients was there, along with our newest client. My mentor, the remarkable Dr. Vera Walker-Hawkins, attended, and Perdita Chavis, Chief of Staff for Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex-Tatum, presented Medley with a certificate of appreciation.
It was truly a night to remember.
