Houston, TX, April 21, 2016 – Texas literacy organization iWRITE will release its new mascot “i” The Guy and his interactive journal to children attending schools in low-income communities. Students at Scroggins Elementary will be the first group to receive “i” The Guy journals and participate in the fictional character’s encouraging mission to increase writing skills and a love for literacy. The journal is aimed to create a positive association to writing in order to offset the negative attitude toward standardized writing required in elementary school. Children will keep this journals and have designated time to write in their journals as part of a new program initiated by the school and iWrite.

“‘i’ The Guy speaks to the readers, using comic book bubbles in order to encourage the kids to participate in fun and interactive writing prompts. As the kids learn more about ‘i’ The Guy’s personality through humorous sayings, personality charts and activities, they are then encouraged to partake in their own character development exercises,” explains Melissa Williams, iWrite founder. “Ultimately the journal acts as a therapeutic outlet for kids, creating a connection to a relatable and interesting character through song writing, script writing, journaling and letter writing.”

“i” The Guy will be a positive influence on children during their journey to become better writers and show children that writing can be used in different ways in their daily lives. It will also allow children to have fun with while learning and growing their literacy skills.

iWrite embraces both sides of literacy, focusing on the importance of being a reader and a writer at a young age. Both reading and writing build a foundation for children to become leaders among their peers.
